Maki Field

Roosevelt's baseball field located in the southeastern corner of the school grounds is named Maki Field. It is named for Jake Maki, who touched many lives in the Roosevelt area. One of the ways he contributed to the youth of his community was through his leadership roles in the Roosevelt Little Baseball Association.

He was active, as well, in the Roosevelt PTA. Jake was the father of two Roosevelt children, Tom and Kristi. In addition, his wife, Janie, was an Educational Assistant here at Roosevelt, as well as PTA President. Jake died from brain cancer in 1992, but not before he left his mark on the Roosevelt community and the baseball program. In 1996, Jake's friends, family and the Little Baseball Association colleagues sponsored and erected the Maki Field sign at the corner of Leavenworth and Garrison in his honor.
