Olympia School District Reacts To Hold on Ground Beef
On Thursday, January 31, the Olympia School District received word that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) had placed a hold on ground beef produced by the Westland Meat Company, a supplier to school districts across the state. Although this is not a recall and there is no evidence of students getting sick because of the beef, the Olympia School District has taken the following steps as an extra precaution, effective immediately:
- Removed all ground beef (regardless of its origin) from school cafeterias and placed it in a central freezer while we await word from the USDA.
- Removed any scheduled menu items that included ground beef from the school menus for the month of February.
The District will be printing new breakfast and lunch menus for February and providing that information on the District website and to families next week. We will keep families and staff informed as we receive more information about this issue.

Cinderella Tickets On Sale Now
For the past several years, teachers and other school employees from throughout Olympia have put on a musical to benefit the Olympia School District Education Foundation. Last year, all four shows of Beauty and the Beast were sold out. The event raised $30,000 for the Education Foundation which distributed the funds for classroom supplies and enrichment activities for our students. This year, the Olympia School District Players will be performing Cinderella at OHS on February 28, 29 and two shows on March 1. It's a good idea to get tickets ahead of time as all four shows are expected to sell out once again. Prior to February 4, advanced ticket forms will be available on the Education Foundation's website (www.osdef.org). After February 4, contact the ticket office at 596-7036 or send an e-mail to ohsboxoffice@osd.wednet.edu. It's a great chance to see your favorite teachers and school staff on stage for a great cause so get your tickets early!
