Roosevelt Ravens Review

Security Enhancements Take Effect Soon

New security enhancements have been installed this past week. Beginning soon, when you come to the school, you will be prompted to ring the doorbell right next to the front entrance. When the front office answers, you will be able to communicate through the video intercom. Please state your name and purpose at the school. At that point, you will be buzzed into the school. Once through the front door, you will check into the main office. Say hello to the office staff, sign in to get a badge, and then proceed into the school. I will send a message as soon as this function is operational.

In addition to the doorbell system, all of the main exterior doors have had card readers installed. All doors in the main building and mini building will be locked during the day. The only way to gain access will be through the keycard system.

Please contact Mr. Shaughnessy with any questions or concerns regarding security enhancements at the building level.

Early Release in November

Thank you, once again, for allowing our teachers the opportunity to work together on Wednesday afternoons. We use this time to ensure that all classrooms at each grade level are aligned in regards to curriculum. This will help us to know that students move from one grade level to the next with a common set of experiences and knowledge. Early release dates will occur on the 7th, 14th, and 28th of November. School releases on each of these days at 2:42 PM.

Screenagers at Olympia High School

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well.

In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
Come join fellow Olympia parents and kids for the special screening of SCREENAGERS (Growing up in the Digital Age) at the Olympia High School Performing Arts Center on Monday, November 5th at 6:00pm. Free Admission.

Walk and Roll November

Students and parents are encouraged to Walk and Roll to school on November 14th. This month, we are going to try just two meeting locations. We will meet at Bigelow Park and the Olympia Little Theatre. Both locations will meet at 8:35 and begin walking to school at 8:40. Please consider joining us if you are able. The day in October was really a lot of fun.

Celebration of Life for Mrs. Stewart

The Roosevelt Staff is planning a celebration of life for Mrs. Stewart. The event will be held in the Roosevelt gymnasium on Monday, November 19th at 6:00 PM. All students and parents are welcome to attend. Please consider joining us as we celebrate the life of an amazing teacher who dedicated 29 years of her life to our school.
