General Information
Absences/Illness
Please call the office at 596-6703 if your child
is going to be absent. The school will contact you if your child is not
present and we have not heard from you.
Roosevelt
School’s and the District’s definitions of excused and unexcused absences are
as follows:
Excused Absences: Personal illness; an appearance in court when required by law; a disciplinary action; observance of a religious holiday; a family emergency; and a planned family activity which has been pre-approved by the principal. In all cases, the school principal determines whether an absence is excused or unexcused.
Unexcused Absences: All other absences are considered unexcused, including student or parent oversleeping, student missing the bus, transportation problems, student needed for baby-sitting, student job requirements, etc.
Parents may wish to try the online absence reporting tool. The link can be found in the navigation panel under "Report Absences". Please note that this feature is in its experimental stage and may be withdrawn at any time without notice. Thank you for your understanding.
Medication
If your child needs medication while at school,
we need a signed form from their doctor, dentist, P.A., or Nurse Practitioner. Medication needs to be in its original
container with its original instructions. Please ask the office staff or
nurse if you need more details.
Fragrance Free Zone
As a courtesy to children and adults in the building who suffer from allergies or asthma, please refrain from using perfume or aftershave prior to entering the building. Thank you!
Dropping
Off / Picking Up Students
In order to keep all of our
school children safe, we ask that parents park only in the designated
pick up or drop off areas at the school.
Please be mindful of no parking or no stopping areas. This permits school buses to pick up and drop off our students safely.
If you need to pick up your child early, please be sure to come to the office first and ask someone to send them down. Please sign them out before leaving the building.
If your child is going home in a manner different than usual, please send a signed note with instructions to the school.
Bikes may be ridden to school. There are bike racks in the front of the building. Students must wear helmets and have bike locks.
Buses/Transportation
Please contact the office to
see if you are on a bus route, or call OSD Transportation
at 596-7700.
Visiting
and Volunteering
Family members are welcome and encouraged to
visit the school. You are encouraged to schedule visits in advance. All
visitors are required to sign in at the office and receive
identification before entering a classroom.
Family members are encouraged to volunteer in
classrooms, and in before/after school activities, including: Before School
Reading, Homework Center, teaching special classes, lunch buddies,
tutoring, and participating in special events. Contact the office at
596-6700 if you are interested.
