Roosevelt to Assist OHS in the Annual Canned Food Drive!

Starting Monday, December 4th through Friday, December 8th we will be helping Olympia High School with their annual Canned Food Drive.  The food drive will support our local Thurston County Food Bank.  Please help by donating cans and other non-perishable foods.

Thinking About Equality and MLK Day:

This year, our ReadingCorp volunteer (Rachel Larrowe) is organizing our school around celebrating diversity and equality through the month of January.  Starting on Monday, December 4, we will be running a special book drive in preparation for our January celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. We are collecting books focused on themes of equality, diversity, justice, and civil rights. In the main lobby, opposite the gym doors, there is a Giving Tree. On each leaf is the name of a book we'd like to add to our library. If you'd like to contribute, come take a leaf off the tree, pick up a copy of the book at your favorite bookstore, and bring it back to the Roosevelt office. These books will be added to our school library and used through the month in classrooms as we work to teach under the themes of tolerance, acceptance, equality, and diversity.  Thanks for contributing to our school's recognition of MLK Day!

4th and 5th Grade Band and Orchestra Concert

On Thursday, December 14th at 2:00 p.m., our very own 4th and 5th grade students will perform in our annual winter concert.  All are invited to come and enjoy the music.

Winter Break

This year, Winter Break will run from December 18th through January 1st.  School will resume on Tuesday, January 2nd.

Upcoming Performances at Roosevelt

This month, we have 2 assemblies for students to enjoy.  These performances are brought to us by the Olympia School District Performing Arts Initiative and are free of charge.

  • Real Food Assembly:  On Monday December 4th at 10:00 a.m., students will be witness to an engaging and informative show that helps students learn about making healthy food choices in their lives.

  • Kristin Lee Assembly:  On Wednesday December 6th at 1:25 p.m., Kristin Lee will perform for our students.  She is a touring violinist from New York’s Lincoln Center who also directs Emerald City music performances in Olympia.   Her presentation will focus on Leonard Bernstein, the composer from West Side Story, whose centennial birthdate is being celebrated this year.

Inclement Weather Conditions

Please keep the following information readily available in case you need to check if school has been cancelled or delayed due to weather or other emergency conditions.  Web or media alerts will inform families if emergency/snow bus routes are being used.  For more information access the EMERGENCY INFORMATION PAGE or the SNOW BULLETIN on the OSD website.

Winter Weather

As the weather gets cold and wet, it makes sense the students will come to school with multiple layers of clothing. To ensure students come home with the same clothes they arrived in, please make sure all coats, hoodies, gloves and hats are labeled with student names. If you provide a name, we will make sure to get clothing back to your children if they accidently leave it behind.  With your help, we could eliminate the need for a Lost and Found at school.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is bursting.  All clothing will be donated over winter break.  If you are missing items, please check our Lost and Found located in the main hallway of the school.  Please make sure to label coats, hats, gloves, and sweatshirts with names.
