We are also still accepting donations for our silent auction.  You can donate a gift card to a great local restaurant, a basket full of your favorite items or a service to help out Roosevelt families.  All items must be delivered to the school by Thursday, November 9.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Fabiana Eussen.

Halloween is almost upon us!  Please do not send your student to school in a costume.  In place of costumes, we are having a school-wide crazy sock day.  Have your students wear and show off their silliest socks!  This is in celebration of our Soctober fundraiser where we were able to donate over 400 pairs of new and gently used socks.  Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Veteran’s Day

Tuesday, November 7th is the day of our Veteran’s Day Assembly.  The assembly will begin at 1:10 PM.  Please invite the military veterans or current military personnel in your family to attend our assembly.  We would love to honor your service in the armed forces.

Fifth Grade Outdoor School

Our fifth-grade students will be attending Outdoor School at the Cispus Environmental Learning Center in Randle, Washington on May 9th, 10th, and 11th.  The cost is $150 per student.  More information will come at a later date.  For now, please mark your calendars accordingly.

School Attendance Matters

Every month, individual student attendance is being monitored by school staff.  We have a saying here at Roosevelt that says, “Missing School is Missing Out.”  Please try to schedule family vacations around our scheduled breaks at school.  Thank you for helping us ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed.

2017-18 Science Fair

The science fair is being scheduled for a date in February.  This early date will allow interested students to enroll their projects in the regional science fair.  Deborah Nied will be in charge of the science fair this year.  More information will come home in December.  For now, please keep this in the back of your mind.

Health Room

·       Please make sure to send a doctor’s note for any medications (including over the counter meds.).

·       We are running low on extra clothing.  Make sure your child has an extra change of clothes in his/her backpack.

Library News

Summer Reading Celebration

What a busy fall this has been! On Oct. 20th we had our annual Timberland Regional Library Summer Reading Program Celebration. 56 kids had frozen fruit bars, played ball, and talked books. Thanks to our PTA who funds this activity and to the parents who came to help out.

2017-18 Book Fair

As I write this, we are wrapping up our Scholastic Book Fair. We will be setting a record for sales this year! A percentage of the sales goes back into our library budget to purchase new books. Remember that our online book fair runs through October 31. If you were unable to attend the in-school book fair, this is another way to shop the sale and help out our school. The web address is listed in the flier and the notices sent home earlier, or you can click this link to the Online Book Fair and find the Roosevelt Elementary fair. A big thank you goes out to the PTA for helping make this happen and for all the parent volunteers who signed up for shifts to sell books and help kids get excited about reading.

PTA Meeting

Join us for our November PTA meeting on November 14th in the Roosevelt Library from 6:30-7:30pm.  Our new OSD Superintendent, Patrick Murphy, will be joining us for our meeting! He will arrive at 6:00 to meet with parents and learn more about our incredible school!  FREE Childcare will be provided for the meeting from 6:30-7:30.  Questions?  Contact Ashley.

Movie Night

Join us at PTA Family Movie Night on Friday, November 3rd to see The LEGO Batman Movie. Doors open at 6:15 and the movie begins at 6:30. This free event is sponsored by the PTA. Bring cushions or blankets to sit on and enjoy free popcorn. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the movie. Please confirm that this movie is appropriate for your child. There are many good resources including Common Sense Media.  Questions? Contact Maureen or Shannon.

CISPUS Wreaths

OSDEF Cispus Holiday Wreath sales on now! Buy yours at Roosevelt Elementary School to support 5th grade Outdoor Education. From now to November 8th, you can pre-order a beautiful wreath for your holiday decor. Your purchase will support overnight outdoor education in the Olympia School District. These make terrific gifts, so remember your neighbors, family and friends. Wreaths are $22 each, with proceeds going to assure funding for overnight environmental studies for our 5th graders, sponsored by the Olympia School District Education Foundation (OSDEF). Wreath delivery will be just prior to Thanksgiving break. 5th grade campers are especially encouraged to sell 4 wreaths each.  Questions?  Special bulk orders? Contact Brandi Cockrell

Winter Festival

This year the PTA is planning a Winter Festival in January, date TBD.  We’ll have tasty treats, winter themed crafts and games for the whole family!  Interested in joining the planning committee?  Contact Jen Jaeger at or join us at our first planning meeting on 11/14 @ 5:30pm in the Roosevelt Staff Room.

School Directory

The School Directory is complete!  It will be distributed in Red Folders.  We hope that the directory provides you the opportunity to connect with other families.

After much difficult deliberation, we have decided to put the Passport program on hold for the 2017-2018 school year.  We will take this opportunity to try and transform the program into a more culturally enriching program.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.
