Fall

Message from the Principal

As we welcome the first days of fall and watch the leaves begin to change, it has been wonderful to see our Roosevelt community settling into the school year. Our students are learning, growing, building friendships, and finding their routines, and I am so grateful to be part of it all.

We have also welcomed two new classroom teachers to our Roosevelt family, and they have been wonderful additions to our school.

Please continue to stay connected with our school and your child’s teacher. We value your partnership and appreciate your communication and support throughout the year.

It is going to be a great year at Roosevelt!

Warm Wishes,
Dr. Chisa Marshall

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is Off to a Wonderful Start!

Our kindergarteners have been busy getting to know their new school, classmates, and teachers! We have been spending lots of time learning how to take care of ourselves, each other, and our classroom community.

The first few weeks of kindergarten are full of learning through play, exploration, stories, building, creating, and lots of conversations.

We are practicing routines, making new friends, learning how our classroom works, and beginning to discover all the ways we can be thinkers, helpers, creators, and problem-solvers.

It has been wonderful to see our kindergarteners grow more comfortable and confident each day. We are so excited for all the learning and adventures ahead this year!

Third Grade

Third Grade

Third grade has been working hard to build strong classroom communities!

We are learning about how our brains grow stronger connections through making mistakes. All three classes enjoyed reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds. This story demonstrates the idea that creativity can start with something small, like a single dot.

Each class created an art project based on the book. These will be displayed as an art installation in our pod, which will be on display during Conference Week.

Fifth Grade

The 5th graders have had a fantastic start to the school year! We have been busy getting to know each other, building our classroom community, and jumping right into learning.

We had a blast playing “Get to Know Your Teacher,” which was definitely a HOOT! The students came up with some very creative answers, and we had lots of laughs along the way.

We also completed our “High Five to 5th Grade” activity, where students shared an academic goal, a dream they have, and two positive things about themselves. It was a great way to celebrate their strengths and think about what they hope to accomplish this year.

We have also started our first class book,
Holes by Louis Sachar, and our first book study is underway! Students are already practicing thoughtful discussions, making connections, and digging deeper into the story.

We are so excited for all that this year has in store! We will grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, problem-solvers, and thinkers while building confidence, independence, and friendships along the way.

It’s going to be an amazing year in 5th grade!

Meet the Librarian

My name is Cathy Stottlemyre and I am thrilled to be the new librarian at Roosevelt. I loved working with all of the students as the art specialist. It has been a nice transition moving to the library and knowing the kids already!

Please help your child remember to bring their books back on their scheduled library day. For students with Friday library times, I am asking that books be sent in on Thursday. I would appreciate your help with this!

We have been reviewing book care in class with all grade levels. All students will participate in lessons on finding a balance with media time and their well being. We will also discuss the AUP, Acceptable Use Policy, for OSD. This lesson outlines how the district's computer network, internet services and digital devices can be safely and appropriately used at school.

Look for information coming in October about a change PTA is making to our usual Book Fair.
I am enjoying working with your child in the library and seeing their excitement each week as they choose new books!
