Roosevelt Roadrunners are always Respectful, Responsible, and Safe

Roosevelt ES RoadrunnerMini Building Dedication

Well, it is official!  The mini building has officially been dedicated.  Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the new building with us.  As the students have been in the new building for 2 weeks now, I can tell you that this building is helping to change the culture of our school.  It is so fun to see the students take great pride in their new space.  I can’t wait to see the results of the main building remodel that is fully under way.

Spring Music Performance

On May 22nd, we will have an all-school music performance.  We will begin at 2:00 PM and hopefully conclude by about 3:15 PM.  All classrooms will be involved in this performance.  For this performance, we are going to try something a little different.  Due to the large crowd that is expected, I am not going to have the kids sitting in the gym.  This will allow us to place the parent chairs much closer to the risers.  The kids will move onto the risers one grade level at a time, beginning with kindergarten and ending with 5thgrade.  When the grade level is done singing, students will move off the risers, out the gym door, and back to their classrooms.  The hope is that this will ease transition times and help the program progress smoothly.  We are going to try this new format to see how it works.  The hope is that it will allow everyone to have a seat and enjoy the performance.  Band and orchestra will not perform at this time.   They will have a separate performance in June.  The kids are really looking forward to singing for all of you!

Memorial Day

Remember that May 28th is Memorial Day. We will not have school on this day.

Class Placement 2018-19

Beginning in May, the instructional staff will begin the process of placing students into classrooms for next school year. If you are not returning next year, it is very important that you tell your teacher as soon as possible. All students that do not live in our school boundary will be placed on a waiting list and will be allowed in on a space-available basis.

Class placement will be released through Skyward Family Access this year. Class placement will be available on Thursday, August 30th, beginning after 10:00 AM. It is very important that you learn how to access Family Access. If you need assistance, please contact the main office at 360-596-6700 or call the district office at 360-596-6150. Family access helps you access things like report cards, attendance, test scores, and lunch balances. It will be a very important tool come middle and high school as well.

Roosevelt PTA News

MAY PTA MEETING:

Our May meeting will be held on MAY 15TH from 6:30-7:30 in the Roosevelt Staff Lounge (PLEASE note the location change as the library is closed!) We hope to see you there! We will be electing our new PTA Board Officers! FREE Childcare will be provided!

PTA BOARD POSITION OPENINGS:

We are excited to announce our candidates for the PTA Board! Below, each candidate has written a brief bio about themselves. We will be voting on the Board positions at our May 15th meeting – we hope to see you there!

President – ELAINE TOMITA:
Hello Roosevelt Community! My name is Elaine Tomita and I would be honored to be selected as the PTA president. I’ve served on the board as the secretary for the past two years and have really enjoyed being involved in enriching our school and community through our PTA activities, such as the movie nights, auction, after school programs, and the upcoming musical. I look forward to working with you to keep these amazing programs continuing and adding new ones as we can. Thank you for supporting our PTA and school!

Vice President – ANIYSA ZUCKOWSKI:
A little bit about me:
I am a wife and a mother of 2 boys, one teen who currently goes to Oly and an almost 2nd grader here at Roosevelt! I was born and raised in WA, and graduated college from the Evergreen State College right here in Olympia. I left the area and went back up north to my old stomping grounds for about 10 years, and moved back here in 2009 after I met my husband. I currently work here in town just up the road from Roosevelt in the Mortgage industry. Some of my passions include being a mom, crafting, travelling, outdoor activities (but really only when the weather is nice!), problem solving and being with people.

Why do I want to be on the board for Roosevelt PTA?

I really love this school! Having had an older kiddo go through other schools, as well as my own school experience, I really can’t express how special this school, and the community surrounds our kids is. The love that the staff has for our children really sets Roosevelt apart from anything I’ve experienced. I see the PTA as an integral part of what makes our school great and provides a welcoming place for parents to gather and be involved in what is happening at our school. As a board member, I can continue to help make Roosevelt special, by being involved in communications between staff and parents concerning our kids and our school. Our PTA has been wonderful in providing some amazing activities, classes and unique experiences for our kids over the last couple of years I’ve been here. I love being involved in my community, and by serving on the board I can help our PTA to continue to bring great activities, discussion and communication to our parents, and staff. Serving on the board is to me, is a wonderful and uniquely special way to stay active and connected to our community, our school and our kids. I am interested in running for the position of Vice President.

Treasurer – KATIE GREER:
My name is Katie Greer and I have two kids at Roosevelt, Elliott is in third grade and Arthur is in 5th. I have been involved with the PTA as the Olympia Junior Programs coordinator for six years. As the OJP torch is passed on, I would like to continue supporting the school by being the PTA treasurer. I would like to be the treasurer because I am organized, detail oriented and I am good with numbers.

Secretary – AMBER KILCZEWSKI:
My name is Amber Kilczewski, and I am interested in the secretary position on the Roosevelt Elementary PTA board for the 2018-2020 school years. I have a 7-year-old and a 5-year-old currently attending Roosevelt Elementary, and I have a 3-year-old at home, also. In addition to being a full time mom, I am a pediatric occupational therapist. I have been working with children with a variety of needs, and their families, for over 12 years in several settings such as outpatient therapy, in the home, and within the school system, too. I prioritize a family-centered approach and address a variety of needs such as sensory processing, feeding delays, motor skill delays, and general parenting strategies. As time allows, I enjoy volunteering my time in the classrooms of my Kindergartener and 1st grader. Acting as the PTA secretary would expand on my time dedicated to my children’s experience in school. I strongly believe having an active role in my children’s education is vital and providing support to our hard-working teachers and school staff is essential to the education system. I am organized, detailed oriented, very efficient, a creative problem solver, and fantastic at multitasking. As the secretary I would hope to continue the wonderful work of the current PTA secretary and board, with the hopes of continuing the process of building a strong and active PTA at Roosevelt Elementary.
