Health and Safety Reminder

Please do not send your student to school with any cold/flu symptoms.  We are having students show up with runny noses and coughs and are having to send them home.   We are trying really hard to keep our school open and follow health and safety guidelines.  Please help us by monitoring for symptoms in the morning and keeping students home when they are not feeling well.  Here is a link to the new flowcharts that the Thurston County Health department provided to school districts.  Thank you!

Introducing our new Family Liaison

Hi, my name is Fabiana Eussen and I am the Family Liaison at Roosevelt.  Some of you may know me from the Health Room.  I was the Health Room Assistant for the past 3 years.  I am very excited for my new position.  The Family Liaison helps connect our Roosevelt families with questions and services in our community.  If you are having housing or food insecurities, need help with transportation or just need a few school supplies, please let me know.  You can contact me at 360-596-6723 or at [email protected].  Hope to hear from you soon!

Financial Assistance Available

The Olympia School District Education Foundation provides support to families in need.  With their support, we can help with:

  • Rent and utility bills

  • Clothing and shoes

  • Eye exams and prescription glasses for students

  • Transportation

  • School supplies

  • School-related expenses

  • Internet through Xfinity and so much more...

We can also provide grocery vouchers to Ralph’s or Bayview grocery stores and gas vouchers to help with transportation.

Please reach out directly to Mrs. Eussen if you need assistance of any kind.

Scholastic Book Fair

The book fair is running (virtually) until November 4th.  If you are interested in purchasing new books for your home, please follow this link.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Schuna.

Sweet Treats at Roosevelt

Here at Roosevelt, we ask that families not provide treats to the classrooms that include cookies, cupcakes, or other sweet treats.  We have many students with allergies that make these treats challenging in the classrooms.  Teachers are happy to work with families to find alternative ways to celebrate special events.  Please reach out to your classroom teacher before sending any food items to school.

Safety Drills at Roosevelt

Safety drills happen every month during the school year and include fire, earthquake, and intruder drills.

This month, we are practicing a fire drill on November 12th at 8:45 AM.  During this time, I will pull the fire alarm so that students can practice getting in line and following their teachers to the back field.  On the field we take role to ensure all students are with us.

No School Days in November

November 11th: No School-Veterans Day

November 24, 25, 26 No School-Thanksgiving Break

Pick up and Drop off Changes

Right now, preschool, kindergarten, and first grade are dropped off and picked up in the front of the building with 2-5 dropped off and picked up at the back of the building.

I am going to slowly start a transition where we move more and more families to the front of the building.   Eventually, what I would like to get back to is our more normal drop off and pick up procedures where everyone is at the front of the building.  I will send emails/robo calls to grade levels when I am ready to make the changes.  Thank you for your help in making this happen.

Dia De Los Muertos at Roosevelt!

Today is the day of remembrance for Dia De Los Muertos.  Thank you to our Latino and Latina families who helped us construct this beautiful ofrenda.  As you can see, many families have contributed to this beautiful display.  It has been so amazing to see students come and spend time here during the day.  What an amazing way for our community to come together and remember those that have passed.  Thank you so much for all of your support in making this a reality.  The ofrenda will be taken down on Friday afternoon. Students will be encouraged to come and pick up pictures throughout the remainder of the week.

SCHOOL PLAY!!

We're so excited to be able to put on a play this year!  As you know, it takes a village to be able to bring these fun activities to Roosevelt! We're still needing parents to volunteer for several helpful roles for the upcoming play in February! Our parents make our events great!

Please contact Aniysa Zuchowski at [email protected] with any questions or to sign up for any open volunteer spot.

What we need:

  • parent volunteers for after school rehearsals, to check kids in and out

  • Concession booth on performance nights

  • Concession coordinator

  • Ticket sales

  • Usher/door help

If any staff would like to help on performance night, that would also be welcome!

This year's performance will be Willy Wonka. The play is open to 3-5 grade, and sign up forms will be going home in January, so keep your eyes peeled for those and more details to come!
